Parenting, Child Rights, and a Thought That Stayed With Me
Today I attended a class on Child Rights and Media, where we discussed what rights and protections are guaranteed to children by the Constitution. It was informative and meaningful, but something deeper stayed with me even after the class ended.
My primary thought was this:
Children deserve to be cared for and parented very consciously.
Parenting isn’t just about raising a child physically — it’s about understanding why we bring a new life into this world and what responsibility comes with it.
a new life into this world and what responsibility comes with it.
Interestingly, something I heard in the bus this morning also triggered this reflection. I overheard someone saying that the first child is often like an “experiment” for parents — they learn through that experience, and the second child benefits from it.
At first, it sounded harsh, but when I thought about it, there might be some truth in it. Parents, in a way, are also “born” when their first child arrives. They learn, struggle, adapt, and grow alongside their child.
But this also made me think:
Wouldn’t some level of preparation and understanding before parenting help both parents and children? Emotional readiness, awareness about child development, and understanding children’s rights could make a big difference.
Another thought I keep coming back to is how naturally curious children are. They are explorers — constantly observing, learning, questioning, and absorbing everything around them. That phase of life shapes who they become as adults.
Because of this, the environment around children matters deeply:
Family attitudes
Media exposure
Education
Emotional support
Social surroundings
All of these contribute to shaping a responsible, empathetic human being.Of course, parenting can never be perfect. Mistakes happen, and learning along the way is natural. But conscious effort, awareness, and sensitivity can help create healthier spaces for children to grow. These are just reflections that came to my mind today — not conclusions, not judgments. Just thoughts worth thinking about.
Because ultimately, raising a child isn’t just about growth in years.
It’s about shaping a human.
